Amazing Race features Manila
Manila was featured last night on Amazing Race. Gosh, I really miss my home. If you don't want me to spoil this season for you don't read any further.... Each couple were suppose to build a jeepney and have that jeep drive them to a 'palayan' (farmland). From there they would either choose to plow a carabao or direct a hundred fowls to a net to get their next clues. Their next destination from that clue was the Coconut Palace, near Manila Bay. Because they have to race to Coconut Palace from the province, each couple's instinctive vehicle of choice was a taxi. Oh my gosh, that was so funny, there is no taxi in a province, the policeman was probably laughing to himself as he told them they have to ride a bus going to Cubao. From Cubao, they all picked a taxi. One couple told the driver they'll pay him extra 50 bucks just to go faster, when he felt that didn't work they added 20 bucks, what a fortune for the taxi driver. Another couple who were in the last place and whose relationship is on the line because of this fact told the driver to go really fast. The driver said if I go to 100 kph he will be breaking the law, to which the couple answered with a resounding "good! That's good"(correct me if I'm wrong, but 100 kph is almost 65 mph, the minimum legal speed in the States. And there is no such thing as 100 kph in Manila because of the traffic, so, it is not an option really). The black couple won first place and a trip to Hawaii. The bowling moms won second place. The model couple won third. The problematic couple will probably kill themselves for being in the last place if not for the mercy of the host to save them, although their money will be taken away from them for the next race.
The race pretty much summed up with the most unforgettable line from Chris (?), the last placer, who has this to say to the uncontrollable carabao -- "Damn you, ox!!"
