My Political Holiday Greeting of Preference -- Merry Christmas!

I was "swingin'" proud of my sociological instincts which has proven to be useful in this manic holiday season. Since my man and I have slowly developed or have a natural abhorrence of crowds, we've created a gameplan to avoid any form of seasonal traffic. I am convinced that the third weekend will be the busiest time of the year, since it's after payday and the kids will be out of school; plus, all office parties will be held on that Friday. So, we shopped on the weekend before that and went to the Tech Museum, SJ Museum of Modern Art and Christmas at the Park last Sunday. Hey and hey, what d'ya know, only a handful of people managed to have same wavelength. D and I enjoyed going to Game On and played the whole afternoon with mostly old school video games (remember Galaga?). Pong proved to be harder game, though hehe....Working out at the gym was a peaceful session as well. Although the rain was uncalled for, any last minute shopper will just crack at the added Christmas pressure.

It's just crazy how some people are trying to remove the essence of the word "Christmas". Some higher ups who shall remain nameless would much rather call Christmas as something generic like a "Holiday" in order to embrace other multi-cultural religious celebration. Well, there's nothing wrong with that as long as there's not a trace of political agenda behind that proposal; one has to wonder. It limits the wordings on cards to either "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" (take your pick). Mix and match any of the words with these adjectives -- warm, joy, best, merry, peace, love, and action words like hope and wish -- you got yourself a legit holiday greeting card.

At the rate of society transforming into political separatedness it won't be surprising if one day Christmas will be mandated to be called just a "natal holiday". Things associated with the name will be gone:

Christmas tree = holiday tree -- removed
Christmas lights = holiday lights -- removed
Christmas cards = holiday cards -- removed
Corporate associations with Christmas = Rudolph, Santa, Mistletoe, reindeers, snowman, eggnog(bleech), tree props, gifts -- removed
Nativity scene = holiday scene; with holiday mother, holiday father and holiday infant -- removed

Therefore, the holiday will be known as Mas! Well, if I remove all the items there except the last one, I would say I still have a meaningful albeit humble celebration.

Warmest wishes in this merry holiday of peace and love!
