What's Shocking
That I've decided to finally come back?! This statement is more like 'what's shaking' since there was that pre-Halloween earthquake last night. I was in the wrong spot, too, as all people would be in the comforts of their home during that time, I was five floors up in my second job, talking to my 'space cadet' boss (for forgetting to pass by the office) on the phone.
So, when the 5.6 happened I didn't even bolt right away but continued talking for some time. Here's a reenactment...
(mild shake)
ME: Hey, there's an earthquake.
Boss: Really?
ME: Yes.
(some swaying)
ME: Uh-oh (pitch a little higher), it's getting stronger.
Boss: (talking to his wife) There's an earthquake.
ME: I think I better go down.
Boss: Yeah, you should.
ME: Okay I'll go now.
(swaying dangerously now)
ME: Aah (faster), I'm going to go now. Eeeh...
Boss: Take the stairs.
ME: I know, okay "boss name", I'm going now.
Boss: You should go.
ME: Oh, okay, okay (this time, while things are shaking around me I even have a moment to feel guilty for hanging up without saying bye)
So, it took me like 30 seconds of talking earthquake escape with my boss before I grabbed my small bag and headed for the stairs. By the time, I reached 4th floor the shaking stopped and Dave called me on the cell to check up on me. I'm using my soprano tone all the way down. By the time I reached the lobby, not outside, mind you, I found another workaholic dude to share some earthquake empathy. Damn, if the building happen to topple down we'd be like two loser casualties. And I would not count the two janitors who probably didn't even feel it, because they're suppose to work at that time.
I was more concerned about my lola, who about that time was in the middle of an operation to remove her spleen. So far, everything was fine...
