Got Sweded
I made use of Dave's last $1 movie ticket last week to watch my idol Michel Gondry's latest "Be Kind Rewind". Before anything else, there's something about normal movie watching that's making me pukey because of directors wanting to hold the camera sans tripod. This happened to me in the last Bourne movie and almost with this one. But it could be the staggering price or the flood of butter of popcorn, but I digress...
Anyway, to the five of us watching(literally, that's two couples and me), I felt that the director is trying to sell his directorial style and package it to what is the current catchphrase called "sweded", all the while running thin on the storyline. The movie might have worked if it was shown like eight years earlier at the advent of DVD. But then the director might want to empathize to the lots of us old timers, which is kinda like salt rubbing on the wound, yeah, I get it we're old and gullible to sentimental things... The other thing is there would be no existence of the 'sweded' concept, which is a big part of the storyline. Of course, there is also Jack Black, and he did exceptionally well as usual. But if you need a bit of a tip, just take the movie for what it is -- entertainment. I do remain a fan.
Here's an MTV from years ago that bears his style for the Fats Waller documentary in the film as well as the directing style the character Jack Black did with his "sweded" movies. Check out the official site, too. The "Lord of the Rings" one looked funny.
