Perusing

My days have been a valuable chase on reading (and stuff)...I've been bugging people to lend me stuff that would keep me days and nights in my mouse hole. So, understandably, they must not wonder why I burn out the library borrowing reading period, I've stacked myself so much with materials that I don't really know where to start. That's why, unlike librarians, friends can be so forgiving with indefinite time periods in terms of book loaning. But please don't misunderstand me, I do return what I use because my living space is small and I respect personal property (most of all)...It will just take more that two weeks to return it...;-)

It started out with "Chronicles of Narnia". I read 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' for the second time, because of the upcoming movie. Gee, that trailer totally worked on me. Now, i'm kinda hooked. I've stopped reading on the Chronicles' fourth book, though, because of another distraction.

Yeah, call it what you want, but I've been in line at midnight waiting for the Harry Potter book. As a grownup, with a little ounce of social connection, I am creating my own excitement. Though I formulated a reason for adults that I will buy the book for my "little sister" (who is 25), shockingly, I found out I won't need to use that excuse after all. I found a dozen of people with no child in tow, not the least wholesome-looking or with rings on their fingers. Whoo, I am spared of the funny looks... Anyway, this book is my sleeping pill at the moment. Quite ironic...

I found my book heaven c/o SD. It's called Half-Price Book Store in Fremont where they sell everything for, well, that name should explain it. And yet stupid me just had to ask the cashier how much a book is...Everything is really cheap here because most of them are used. I bought an adult reading sociology book called "Fast Food Nation". Inside I found out a note that the book was birthday present from a girl named Sarah. Well, somehow, somewhere little Sarah doesn't know that her daddy already made a small profit from her gift. Who knows how many eyes and hands it has passed on...or daddy couldn't bear the thought of being healthfully conscious at all he considered the book a painful reminder...

It's fun to find little treasures here, one time I bought a four dollar red hardbound book that has an postcard inside for an invitation to a Christian group meeting somewhere in Arizona, in 1957. Was the reader able to attend that meeting I wonder? Did he wrack his brains out trying to find out where his invite went? Or did he say to himself, hmmm this card makes a good page stopper.

Ah...Narnia.

I was about 11 when I found a copy of Lion, and I'd read the whole set twice by the time I was 12.

Oh, and btw, I wasn't out at midnight, but it took me less than 48 hours to read The Half-Blood Prince.

Wow....what a book...about halfway through the second read at the moment. Will read a bit more tonight.
