Peter Who?

I had a crush on Peter Sarsgaard (sp?) ever since "Shattered Glass". But I was totally surprised when he was made to host the recent Saturday Night Live because aside from being an underrated actor I wouldn't think anybody would consider him after all. He mostly played supporting roles to big Hollywood types like Jodie Foster, Hilary Swank, Hayden, Leonardo or Liam Neeson. What they he lacked in looks (he's charming IMO) he made it up in a. very. intense. acting. I thought he had the vibe of Edward Norton and the aloofness of John Malkovich. He can be funny, too, a revelation I suppose. But I hope he didn't get the gig because an SNL writer got inspired with his last name and thought of Peter Sarsgaard's SARS Guards skit. Haha, it is funny just the same.

I think overall the show is pretty decent. They obviously spoofed his "Shattered Glass" character Chuck Lane, but instead of using the New Republic Magazine they used "Cat Fancy" mag, where he was questioning the credibility of the knockoff Glass character (parodied by Seth Meyers) whose assistant is a cat, totally hilarious. There is also a subtle homage to "The Center of the World" where he got stuck in a hotel room with 'Barbara' the tv info program and no remote. His opening skit is also funny where his serious demeanor is always mistaken for that of a serial killer or a fruitcake (can you say 'white naked guy reading a newspaper in the dark'?) I might consider getting a transcript, just cut out the creepy Drew boob part.

Even if Peter's playing second fiddle to every movie, I'm glad somebody took notice of his acting chops. Seriously, this guy needs a lead.
