Trancing Around
Working in downtown LA has the fortunate quirks sometimes, perhaps it's only in our block. But our corner building is a magnet for location shootings and some kind of weekend events. Giant Village just held their rave party here. I believe it was a big annual street event with 5 stages, tents and non-stop jumping-like-fleas dance. It was my first time to experience the ravishing sweatfest of deaf-full beats while amongst swinging strangers. The experience didn't cost me a dime; only a shot of bacardi and coke concocted by a co-worker friend, which didn't make me really drunk, but unknown enough to get the liberty of uninhibited grinding to a dance style that should be reserved in a locked teenager room. DJs included Paul Van Dyk, The Chemical Bros. and a certain Paul Oakenfold but I can't tell one of them from the other, they're all mixing around, figuratively speaking, of course. The building staff I was with, which included an engineer, property mgr asst, painter, security guard et al had our own party set up on the unoccupied fifth floor watching the activity below. Even if that day was ultimately scorching -- running around doing errands, no a/c in the building, harassed by misinformed security, and joining the chaos of the rave at what is probably the hottest (and most unfortunate) time of the year, I have had the time of my life.
