Perk#2
Remember my second to the last blog about my lucky workplace (see Trancing Around). Well, the week after that there were a half dozen film shootings on the close vicinity of the office. This may be a mighty normal occurence to the white and blue collar regulars (and an incovenience at that) but see still being a part of the building managment, or thus a hanging accessory who 'happened' to be assigned to the same building as the manager, we received the second perk of the week -- a free lunch for two days along with the non-union extras and production staff of the shooting. This may be considered the poor section of the guild, for in my limited knowledge being a member may bear a privilege like say eating inside an airconditioned room, but settling for a parking lot bistro eating is not that bad...did I mention it was free? This was only Monday and Tuesday. The next day there was another shoot for a certain retail store using one of my boss' building. Though they skipped us the meal because they don't serve one (although i heard the staff settled for rationed t-shirts and shorts) I can just hear the rustling of extra revenues. A friend said one time the block was used as a substitute for Japan for the movie "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift". The facade went on for months which was exciting and which I missed.
Pretty much the next few days the fax machine keep churning filming production notices -- one movie and two commercials. Just this afternoon a location scout took pictures of our office because they wanted a workplace that looked exactly like crap and thought that our (my co-worker and I) desks look qualified enough for the commercial. That's right my desk is a nasty piece of rubbish. Papers all around, trays that are rarely used, making friends with the file cabinets and windowless view; it is depressing. But hey it might still be lucky even though I'm not, but it's good fortune nonetheless for the place. Maybe it will rub on me.
